[Badou chooses this moment to return from one of the many places of employment he's engaged in, and he's pulling off a yellow apron that clashes horribly with his entire existence when he smells smoke]

[where there's smoke, there's fire, and where there's fire, there's something cool to watch]

[so Badou keeps heading down the street until he comes up short in a pile of flamingo guts, blinking at the spectacle on his lawn]

[at length, he raises a hand (half-encased in a brand new cast, which runs up to below his elbow) at the boy and Carol both]

What—what does it look like! [with a pause, he squints to look at badou, somewhat bemused by the yellow apron. and what's that on his arm, some giant woolen armband?] Barbecue??

[carol just. doesn't know how to deal with these two kids, so nonchalant about the yard being strewn with entrails and used as a firepit. she pinches the bridge of her nose, hard.]

We have an oven, you know, I -- are those flamingos? Where did you get flamingos?

[surveying the carnage, he squats a few feet from Thorfinn, picking up a stick to poke the fire with]

I dunno if ya could fit all these flamingos in the oven... Did'ja eat any yet? S'it good?

Like I know how to work those things, and where else would I get them? [scoffs, picking apart a piece of roasted flamingo with his hands, one that's already been cooked through.] Tastes like bird. [what can he say.]

[a retort that's essentially him dropping the subject, letting it slide off—because haha, he doesn't know what a grocery store is. and anyway, it doesn't matter, there are already several dead flamingos being roasted so it's not like there's a point to stopping him. he picks at more flamingo, eating a piece himself.]

I meant, how do you know flamingo is even safe for humans to eat? There could be natural toxins or something. Or diseases.
