Re: action
[she doesn't know how far she trusts him to make it, so she puts a guiding hand on his arm, steering gently toward the car.
meeting someone, he'd said.]
Okay. All right. Just -- try not to be sick. Or drown. Okay?
Re: action
[ rather than risk hacking it on his own, he lets her lead, gesturing grandly to the black void of the sky above. a pity that the sodium flare of urban lighting drowned out so much. ]
Sick's another matter entirely!
Re: action
[carol's a perfect guide, even opens the passenger door for him, despite the itching discomfort she feels with all of this. better to take him there and watch over him, though, than to send him home and risk him trying to go by himself anyway.
there's a bottle of water in the car, half a day old but it'll have to do. she reaches around him to grab it off the floor, fixes him with a serious look.]
I'll do this for you, but you're gonna drink a lot of water, and you're gonna get as sober as you possibly can, and you're not gonna puke on me. Understand?
Re: action
[ he stares, first, at the bottle in carol's hand before shifting his gaze to carol herself, perplexed and uncomprehending as only the severely intoxicated could really be. like she grew an extra head, or propositioned him for something fit to be featured in a Kunoichi's Gone Wild special.
his tone, however, suggests otherwise. ]
Haven't done what I need t' do yet.
[ it's the tone of a man delivering the obvious to the oblivious.
he was going to get so sick later on, no doubt ]
Re: action
I'm not gonna pretend it's any of my business, just -- take better care of yourself in future. Stupid.
[the admonishment is gentle, and she feels foolish, and he probably won't even remember it later, but it needed to be said.]
Re: action
he stares at the water like she'd just handed him a particularly perplexing puzzle, and gives it a shake. ]
Right, right. I'll do m'best.
Re: action
[satisfied, or as satisfied as she's going to get, carol straightens to make her way around to the driver's side. the cool night air gives her an odd feeling of clarity, turns the jumble inside her mind into something resembling a neat path forward.
it doesn't make things any better.
to the beach, then.]
